Creative Writing Competition

The promoter of the competition is Ibdaa Limited, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates under license number MC 11767 and having its registered address at Office No. 135-FD, Level 1,Incubator Building, Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (the “Promoter”).

I. Introduction

The Promoter has a proprietary application ‘Abjadiyat’. Abjadiyat provides Arabic language skills and knowledge for kids of 3-10 years of age. Abjadiyat contains a scaffolded approach that ensures students of different levels can learn and practice the Arabic language with confidence at school and home. Abjadiyat is developed by a world-class team of educators, artists, engineers, gamers, and linguists to ensure that the contents in Abjadiyat align with the various curricula adopted by the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates.

III. Contest Terms

Participants to the competition shall write a story for children in any of the following categories:

  • a. From 4 to under 6 years old (the “First Age Group”)
  • b. From 6 to under 8 years old (the “Second Age Group”) and
  • c. From 8 to under 10 years old (the “Third Age Group”).

The participants shall send their stories to before the deadline.

IV. Requirements for a Story

  • For the First Age Group, the story must contain from 10 to 30 words
  • For the Second Age Group, the story must contain from 30 to 50 words; and
  • For the Third Age Group, the story must contain from 90 to 120 words.

The story must be culturally sensitive and must respect the United Arab Emirates’ culture and religion. The story must be written in formal Arabic language so that children can understand the story.

V. Awards

A. The Promoter will announce on the accountment date and at the place of announcement, as stipulated above, one winner for each category. The Promoter will publish the winner’s story along with winner’s name on the Abjadiyat platform for one (1) year from the date of announcement.

B. The winners will be chosen by a committee consisting of educational and linguistic experts. The committee’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

VI. Criteria

A. The competition is open to residents of the United Arab Emirates aged 18 years or over except employees of the Promoter and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the Promoter or judging of the competition.

B. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.

C. The Promoter reserves the right to verify winners and ask for proof of identity, age and address and to withdraw prize entitlement where there are reasonable grounds to believe there has been a breach of these terms and conditions.

VII. Legal Terms

A. By entering this competition, a participant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.

B. Any participant’s story that the Promoter considers (in its absolute discretion) to be offensive, indecent, racist, plagiarized, and / or infringing on the rights and / or copyright of others will be immediately disqualified.

C. The Promoter reserves the right to cancel and amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice.

D. The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Abu Dhabi.

E. Each winner irrevocably authorizes the Promoter to copy, exhibit, and / or publish their stories in Abjadiyat or for any other lawful purpose.

F. Each winner agrees that they will make no monetary or other claim against the Promoter for the publication of their stories and names at any point in time.

G. Each winner agrees to take part in marketing, promotional and publicity events, and specifically gives their express permission for their names and photographs to be used in such events.

H. Each participant agrees to hold harmless and to release the Promoter from any / or all claims and / or demands and / or liability arising from pursuant to this competition.
